There’s not a whole lot to say about this one that isn’t obvious from the title. If anyone looks at record, history, roster, anything, this is clearly a stretch. Shannon Sharpe is just attempting speak this belief into existence. Yes the Patriots and Chiefs are the top two teams in the AFC, but there is a reason why the Patriots have been number one in everyone’s power rankings since the season started: they’re better. Their roster is better, they have more experience, and they have won both head-to-head match-ups since Mahomes became the starting quarterback for the Chiefs.
It is worth noting the Chiefs have not even come close to acquiring Jalen Ramsey yet. The Chiefs’ defensive backfield is quite porous, and one would have to believe Ramsey woud improve their back end. But for now their starless secondary will have to try their best and continue to rely on their offense out-gunning their opponent. Sharpe is on the record saying he just wants to see the dynasty end, and I don’t blame him. I love when people say that. I revel in it.
Update: It’s Early December and the Chiefs never did acquire Jalen. They have had their struggles, but the Ravens have dominated the AFC outside of the Patriots. Jalen was traded to the pretending Rams, who thought they had a shot at reaching a second straight Super Bowl. It will be interesting what happens this offseason as Ramsey is now a free agent. Hopefully he doesn’t go to the Chiefs! Just kidding, I’m not afraid.
